St David's Foundation Hospice
Established in 1979, the St David's Foundation Hospice provides care for people suffering with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. From its first year of operation, when it cared for six patients, it has grown to become one of the UK's largest provider of hospice at home care, caring for over 2,800 patients and families every year.
The hospice offers a free and comprehensive palliative care service for patients, their families and carers facing a progressive life-threatening illness which is no longer curable.
St. David's Foundation Hospice relies on a team of specialist nurses who provide care and emotional support for patients across the local community from diagnosis through to treatment and aftercare. At any one time the hospice's nurses are caring for over 1,000 patients. The cost of providing this service, which is free-of-charge to patients and their families, is over £5.4 million per year.
St. David's Foundation specialises in offering a range of care of services to its patients including 'Hospice at Home' for terminally ill patients providing hands-on nursing care, 24 hours a day, 7days a week, 365 days a year.
With three day hospices in Ystrad Mynach, Pontypool and Brecon providing patients with an opportunity to meet and share their experiences with others in a safe and friendly environment. The day hospices are staffed by health and social care professionals, complementary therapists and volunteers who are on hand to offer professional advice, whilst giving patients the opportunity to have some independence, find new hobbies, enjoy a cooked meal and have a lot of fun whilst making new friends.
Without the support of local businesses, volunteers and fundraisers the work the hospice carries out in the local community would simply not be possible. St. David's Foundation Hospice would like to take this opportunity to thank the 22 business men who are taking part in this challenge and wish them every success on their journey.
This money raised from this challenge will help make help make a massive difference in the community and on behalf of the St David's Foundation, our carers and our patients THANK YOU!
